Attorney at Law
John Parker grew up in Manteo, graduating from Manteo High School in 2000 and
from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004.
Upon college graduation, John moved back to Dare County and worked for a boat
building company in Wanchese. In 2005, he enrolled in the School of Law at North
Carolina Central University and was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in 2008.
Following law school, John worked as an assistant district attorney in Wake county.
During his time with the District Attorney's Office in Raleigh, he prosecuted
thousands of misdemeanors and numerous driving while impaired offenses. For a
period of time, John was assigned to the DWI courtroom where he had the
opportunity to try DWI cases on a daily basis. He also became the Chief District
Court Prosecutor, supervising all assistant district attorneys in the district court
division. In year three with the District Attorney's Office, John was promoted to the
position of felony prosecutor, with a concentration on felony drug charges.
In 2011, John went into private practice and joined the law firm of Hornthal, Riley,
Ellis & Maland in Elizabeth City. His practice was focused on criminal and traffic
defense work in the First Judicial District which includes, among others, the
counties of Dare, Currituck, Camden and Pasquotank.
John joined the law office of Kris J. Felthousen in April of 2015. He now works
closely with Kris in an effort to best serve clients in need of quality criminal defense
John is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association,
First Judicial District Bar and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. He is a
member of Duck United Methodist Church and resides in Dare County with his
wife, Ann-Marie, and their daughter.
